Snap-On 71-10 from 1940
I am a Craftsman guy, so I know little about Snap-On. Here is what I bought this morining at the flea for $20.
Looked old.
The date code has a 0 with a slanted line so it looks like 1940. The brass screw needs to be replace. I also thought the steel screw was not original, but I now I am not so sure. Drive gear has been reversed.

I'm not positive but I'm pretty sure the steel screw is correct.
Nice ratchet.

I thought maybe 1942 but the 2 is on an angle. Looked more like 1940. From the date code chart.
The steel screw does appear to be original. More so since it not threaded all the way. Just like old Craftsman ratchet screws. Threads are #6 x 40. A replacement screw for the brass one is not going to be easy to find. The brass one is actually #6 x 32 so that is why the threads on the brass screw do not look right. But thank god a brass screw was shoved in as it did not damage the #6 x 40 threads on the steel plate. I have a #6 x 40 tap I used to chase the threads on the plate, and that is the correct size.
I will hit the what is left of the local hardware stores to see what I can find. Anyone know if Snap-On still has screws like that?
The head has a bushing pressed into it.

No #6 x 40 screws at the stores. Looks like I can't do a PM because I don't have enough posts.

I have been screwed by snapmom. The screw has arrived. It is the middle one in the first pic.
The brass 32 TPI screw on has been removed. The plate calls for 40 TPI and the brass is 32. The 32 brass screw shoved in did not screw up the 40 threads on the plate.
The top of the head of the replacement screw is a bit rounder.
A very nice gesture to send me a replacement screw.

Found a 1/2" 1939 71N at the flea. The top of the screws are flat, like the one original screw from the 1942 71-10. I have a 1964 SV-71 and they are rounded, just like the one snapmom sent me. So they did change over the years.

The 71n is a G date code for 1945. Often the G was stamped upside down it seems.

I found another 71-10. Looks like a 1944 E. Cadmium plated with 20 teeth.
Same seller had a L-710. Looks like a 1956. I had not seen this style before, with a flat beam and a round handle. 32 teeth. It has a design patent for the grooves in the handle.
