Hello everyone,

Does anyone have any idea who the manufacturer was and the model number of this dark grey and red tool chest? It belonged to my pop and was always my favorite growing up. It was destroyed in a fire 18 years ago and as much as I can remember it was Snap-On, but I cannot find it in any literature.

Sorry for the poor quality of the picture, but it is all I have. The attached drawing is close. The drawer pulls are similar to those on the old Kennedy chest shown on the left side in the picture. It had a drop-front panel attached to the lid. There is a name on the left side of the bottom drawer and it is unreadable in the picture so I put ‘Unknown’ on the drawing. It is similar to the way it was on the chest. I just cannot remember the name. It sat on a Snap-On KR 377 roller chest (which can be seen in the wanted section of this forum).

The Kennedy box was spared with only some blistered paint though a brother painted over the ID tag so I don’t know what model it is, but include it because of the similarity of the handles. Both should be pre 1970’s.

It looks like a 'Hout' box, they are still in business but make mostly drill index's

I found a Hout box in another forum that looks very similar to the one here. That name does not ring a bell for this box, though it has been a few years back into the memory. Do you know who made the boxes for them? I really appreciate the help.

The next hard step after finding what the box is, is to find where one is...

Thanks bunches for the help. Though the Huot name still does not ring a bell it looks like that may be what I am looking for. I am going to scour over the old photo albums in hopes of finding maybe one more picture that I can at least see the name on the box. Plus I have another unknown box that finally I have located at:

The cabinet is exactly like this unknown one that I have. And it is a Huot. So all these years I have remembered Snap-On as the chest and it may well turn out to be a Huot. That brings up the possibility that this chest and cabinet may have been purchased together even though the chest looked newer. Pappy has been gone for 14 years now and one thing I never asked him was where all his tool boxes came from. It would really be nice to duplicate his collection. All you 'youngins' out there better learn all you can from the 'old timers'; once their knowledge is gone - it is gone.

The bottom drawer in the one photo is 'photo shopped' in because the old drawer being out of the cabinet at the time of the fire is really warped. That one is tough to restore. The slides were in bad shape from many years of heavy weight and lots of sliding. Pappy had taken the slides and drawer out and later gave me the cabinet. Thankfully I had taken it and was using the cabinet in my shop at the time of that fire.

At any rate thank you all so much for the help and to all the folks here at Collecting Snap-On goes thanks as well. I will post again if I can find a name for sure, but it really looks like Huot is what I am looking for instead of Snap-On.
