Help ID pre-war (?) Snap On Box

Post by SteveK46825 »

Hello all,

I have been restoring Snap On boxes for a number of years and I am usually able to date / ID boxes by perusing my catalog collection and the ones available here.

However, this one has me stumped!!

I am reasonably certain it is pre-war, and likely 1920-1930's vintage, but I can not find an exact match in any of the catalogs. Take not of the two pull out top trays.

Any one have any idea what this one is?

The triangle decal dates it to probably early to mid 40s

Many thanks SnapMom,

Most of the stuff I have restored is post 1950, so I am in new territory here with even 1940's vintage...

I presumed pre-1940 due to the leather handle, but I have no research or experience to back that up .....my guess of pre-war was just my preconceived notion!

Thanks for setting me straight.... I honestly do not know what time period they used the triangle logo in.

I am still stumped having re-perused through the 1940's catalogs...

I even considered the drop in trays were added at some point, but they are too well constructed to be homemade and the paint / patina matches the rest of the box very well..

So, I am currently inclined to think they are original.

I also considered this might be a 3/4 drive box, but the dimensions are wrong.

The exterior of the box measures 18.5 L x 4.5 H x 6 5/8 D.

Many thanks again for the post!

.. any further thoughts?

I think the trays are factory too. This box maybe made for a special set. But I do not think it is 3/4.
