I refinished my late father's K55-W. It will not be sold or used. Should I have left it as it was? Sorry, I couldn't upload pictures.

Some people like them refinished, and others just as found, but sometimes its best to repaint, just to kept it intact. I have done both, I like to keep them with the orig. paint, but sometimes it begs to be restored. you should use it, thats what your father did with it.
