These first appear in Catalog I (1932).
Special Brake Pliers Number 14 & 14-B
Special Brake Pliers
These are for Steeldraulic Brakes. These brakes are drum break sets sold to a number of automobile manufactures. There is a knurled adjuster nut inside the drum to spread the shoes – adjusting these brakes. These pliers fit that nut. More modern drum brakes adjust shoes automatically (while using brakes in reverse).
These brakes were used in Oaklands, Pontiacs and Auburns in the 1920-1930s. Auburn (1931-32), Hupmobile 1928, after 1927-1940, Pontiac 1928-32, a few Nashes, De Vaux (a Durant derivative for 1932 only) Durant 1930-31, Oakland 1928-32, Dodge 4 and Standard. There are two basic types that are basically the same, but have different angles on the handles. He “No 14-B” is more severely angled to clean obstructions on some cars. The regular are at a less severely angled.
Within these 2 types there are variants, small and large versions exist. These pliers for Snap on / Blue Point were (apparently) were all made by Forged Steel Products (Vacuum Grip) and marked that way. I have found none stamped “Snap on”. Many other companies made these type of pliers (non with vacuum grip handles).
