Reed and Prince Screw Driver Set 1941

Catalog drawing from 1941

Reed and Prince Screw Driver Set

Reed & Prince heads were made by Reed & Prince Manufacturing Company of Worcester, MA. These are also known as Frearson heads. A Reed and Prince screw looks like a Phillips screw, but the angle’s steeper and there is no relief cut at the cross. (ANSI standards calls this a Type 2 recess)  A Phillips screwdrive will not fit because of this. They don't strip easily. These are found in marine applications (boats) particularly in Bronze and Brass flat-head wood screws. Because of the taper cut one size driver fits all size screws although there are 2 sizes available. These were common from the late 1930s to the mid 1970s
