Hi, I am new to the site. I have a question on a set of Snap on Tools that were my fathers. First a story. In 1925 my father enrolled at the Milwaukee Motor School.
as a reward for enrolling he was given a "fine set of tools". The April 1920 issue of Popular Science shows an ad for the school and talks about the tool set. It does not mention Snap on as the tool company. With the help of this site I have determined that the set is a box B-1 set listed in the 1925 catalog. The set contains a Ratchet #7, no hole, caped plug, with Snap On Milwaukee, USA on one side and Snap On with a boxed DIF logo on the other side, a speeder #4 19", a brace #5 131/2", extentions # S-6 5" and #S-12 10", T handle #2 61/2" and T handle #3 113/4", breaker bar #1 101/2", sliding T bar S-5 10" (smooth shaft), a flat head screw driver extention and a universal #8 listed as "rare". Sockets listed with a number have an unbroken underline. 7/16 SO, 1/2 #160, 9/16 SO, 19/32 SO, 19/32 #190, 5/8 #200, 11/16 #220, 3/4 #240, 25/32 #250, 13/16 #260, 7/8 #280. For insurance I am interested in a value on this set. At some point the set may go up for sale, but only as a set.

Here are the pictures of the tool set. In looking at the picture of the 1 - B set shown in the 1925 catalog I see a Snap On logo on the inside of the lid. My set does not have that logo. I am wondering if my set predates 1925.

Very nice set. Would date about 1924-25. Missing one piece, but these are usually missing a lot more. Hard to value, would probably sell 400-700, just depends on who wants at the time it sales.

snapmom, thank you for your reply. Can you tell me what piece is missing from the set. As I said, the set may go up for sale if there is interest.

The ratchet attachment. Not hard to find. The screwdriver attachment is a add on.

PLEASE don't sell this! It was your father's - part of your family heritage. It should be passed down to your kids/grandkids, etc.

Just my opinion ... besides - it's a REALLY cool early Snap-on set.

Yes I understand the importance of the set. I have not made up my mind on what I will do. I am in my 70's, have no children who has any interest, one unmarried daughter. Will keep the set for now. I agree it is a nice complete 1925 B-111 set of tools. Thanks for your input.
