What carry box is this?

Post by 454ragtop »

Found this SO carry box this weekend, trying to ID it. Went thru most all of the catalogs on here, didn't find anything like it. It measures about 18-1/2" x 6-3/4" x 5" high, fairly small. Tray measures about 17-3/4" x 6". Tray is divided up to hold sockets, I think. Any idea what I have? Does the logo under the hasp help to date it? Could it have a special purpose, not for sockets? There seems to be another box about this size, but it doesn't have a tray, and unlike this one, use a piano hinge.
TIA, Jim

The model number and date should be stamped on the back.

Thank you Snapmom. I saw some carry boxes that were stamped on the bottom, so I looked the bottom over real close, nothing. I'll look the back over tomorrow with a magnifying glass and report back.

I have a box and tray like yours stamped KRA250 (box) and a KRA250-38 (tray)both made in 1970. The catalog pictures seem to be a generic picture used through-out the years. This box was used for a 3/8" dr socket set.
My box is stamped on the back and the tray is stamped on the bottom.

Thank you very much. That's it. Even after knowing what I was looking for, only mention I could find was in the 1960 catalog, as part of a Ferret set. Shows a drawing of the tray, but no part # or other mention I could find. I'll still look it over tomorrow and see if there are part #'s or dates anywhere I can Find.

Here is a pic of the stamping on the bottom of the tray from a 1969 model. I have some earlier ones with no stampings, so it maybe yours is one of those.

Thank all for the help, found the stamping on the back of the box KR-250A with what I take is a 1955 date code. Looked the tray all over with a magnifying glass, couldn't find any markings. Torn between refinishing the box, which would lose what's left of the decal, or live with the "patina". I wonder what year they changed to a piano hinge, must be when they went to the "B" suffix and took some of the dividers out of the tray?
