Looking for info on world class edition toolbox

Post by bwink »

I recently inherited a world class edition snap on tool box full of snap on tools. I can't seem to find much info on the toolbox online so I was wondering if anyone here knew anything about them like when they were made, how many were made and what the value of one might be. I saw someone selling one on an old thread of a different forum, he stated that only 50 were made worldwide but I'm not sure how credible that is. Any and all info would be appreciated! Thank you

Okay the info on the back for the bottom box says KR-660 B Kenosha, WI. USA. 90
And the top box says KR-690 Kenosha WI. USA. 90. I don't have pictures of mine put together right now but here is the other one I saw for sale. Mine is exactly like it. http://www.whitbyseaanglers.co.uk/forum ... ic=25703.0

The 90 on your boxes means that they were made in 1990. The April 2 1990 price list shows the KR660B @ $2530.00 and the KR690 @ $1980.00. That would be the List price of the Red version of those boxes and when Snap-on made special editions (they made many different ones with different boxes) they would make a whole lot more than 50, my understanding was usually about one per US Dealer or between 3 or 4 thousand. It simply would cost to much per box to design and make that few a number of any one design.

I have the exact same box and when I bought it I was told that there were only a handful of them brought to the UK and that it was a very limited edition. The story was (and I know this will be either confirmed or otherwise on this forum), that this was the first box to be done in black and was effectively a toe in the water for Snap On as Snap On boxes were (at the time) always red.

As we all now know, black boxes are no longer rare, in fact I can't think of many colours (colors to you US guys) that they've not used since but this box was allegedly the first black one.

Me and my good friend at the time bought the last two available from the regional office and we both still have them. In the twenty odd years since I bought it, that is the fists picture I've seen of one and by coincidence the guy selling it is in the same county (Yorkshire) probably about 75 miles away - just around the corner if you are in the States :)

I'll be interested in any other info that comes to light.

I could never find any pictures of it on Google and I searched long and hard to find any info on it but never any luck. The link I mentioned above stated there were only 50 made, which I found very hard to believe but that picture is also the only one I have ever seen so that leads me to believe that they must be somewhat rare. Thank you to the both of you for the information.

Greetings members. I purchased a World Class Edition roll cabinet in 1992 and can confirm that there was only a limited 50 that were painted as such. It was the first non red roll cabinet that Snap on ever produced. I purchased it working in Southern California. The frontal area was painted gloss black and the sides oddly enough were painted flat black. I didn’t like the sides flat black so before I loaded tools into it, I had our body/paint department paint the sides with gloss black in Mercedes Benz color code 040. I will check the back of the cabinets to determine what the roll cabinet numbers are when I get the chance to move it away from the wall in my garage. I will try to post pics of the cabinet. So far the file is too large. I’m not as tech savvy as I wished. I’ll post the cabinet numbers in the future. If I’m unable to post the pics I can email them.
