Snap-On S-711?

Post by SOdarren »

I have a 1/2" square drive ratchet that appears to be a 1964 (open "4" mark) Snap-On S-711.

It's an odd piece because the S-711 first appeared in 1965.

And there is no "Snap-On" marking anywhere on the ratchet. But the handle does look identical to a Snap-On ratchet from the same era.

Can anyone tell me more about this ratchet and if it was made by Snap-On? And what is the best way the clean up the dark rust spot?

Yes, it is a Snap on. Many of the 64-65 rats has the name and model number on the dust cover, did not take long to see the error of this.
The cats are not a reliable way to tell when a model actually started so, the 64 is not a surprise.
You can clean it using a very fine deburring wheel, or something like 1000 wet dry paper and 0000 wool.

Thanks for the information Snapmom!

Just this morning googling 1964 Snap-On Ratchet, found one other discussion about no Snap-On marking:

Wondering what was the reason for removing the marking...
