I have a box full of 1/2'” 5/8” and 7/8” plugs. These were machined years ago for the Snap On #7 ratchet wrench. I am cleaning out my garage and re-covering them.
The wrenches these are intended for (Number 7) are about 100 years old. They are collector items, not really used for turning nuts (bolts) Because the plugs are small, removable and have had 100 years to escape with the socks, most are gone. I have a few original plugs, but I had a lot more wrenches without plugs. I had these made in Binghamton NY in the 90s, To get the spring ball detent to work, the plug needed to be deformed around the ball (crimped) to hold it. Snap On originally must have used a huge press to do this after hardening. I have no access to such a press, for they were not hardened. They work just fine, but if you get on it - that is apply a lot of torque, the plug will shear. However, many guys are going to use a cheater pipe and twist the living heck out of a number 7 wrench? So, I want to be upfront about the hardening, but I do not think it really matters much.
the ratchet was sold from 1924 to 1930 https://collectingsnapon.com/1-2-drive-ratchet-adaptor/ these were used on Model Ts and Model As.
If you are interested in having a new plug, let me know
Thanks
