Just a quick question I was researching a recent purchase of a Blue Point xd wrench 1 1/8 and 1 1/16 and it is dated 1952 but your chart shows they were made until 1939 and then in 1962 and I wondered if that was an error. If not I can post a picture of the date code. Also wondering the difference between blue point and snap on wrenches of this era, I am guessing it is the amount of chrome used or the actual wrench metal, any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeremy

Re: Blue point xd Wrench
The listings in the web site are straight from the catalogs. If a tool was not listed - it does not mean it did not exist, also Snap on listed some tools that (I think) were not (never) sold. At least some of the tools have never been found. So it is very possible you have a tool outside the listed date range. Also there are, routinely, tools found that were never listed. They were never sold in the volumes needed to make the listings??
Also Snap on, then and now, was not attempting to insure their listings were complete. They were selling tools. Because of this they were pretty sloppy about the listings. The number system is not complete, they used the same numbers for different tools, recycled numbers and pretty much violated most of their own guidelines.
I am putting together an index at the moment (You can use it now for pre WWII part number searches) and the names also change. What started as a Magneto socket, later became a set of standard sockets, specialty tools morph into standards, Standards change names over time, their use of spaces and dashes are random. Basically it is like a bunch of guys pushing to get a catalog out on time (which is probably what was happening)
It is an impure world.
Post the picture - I would like to see what you have.

Re: Blue point xd Wrench
Here are some pics of my other examples of Snap on XDH although not all old there are some interesting things of note about a few of them, picture 1 & 2 is an interesting example the wrench is XD 2830 as opposed to Snap on's XDH series, I though xd was reserved for BP, it is the only one in my set that is stamped on both sides of the wrench, pic 3 is xdh 3032, pic 4 is a group with no date code only patent # and pic 5 are date code and patent # mix.

Re: Blue point xd Wrench
Parting shot of the set, the only one I would still like to have is xdh1820 (9/16 & 5/8), there are also some /32 wrenched I do not have but cannot justify buying them as I have nothing with those sized fasteners.
